Statement from the Ohio Oil and Gas Association on Passage of HB 225:

Posted By Lyndsey Kleven, Friday, January 19, 2018
We commend Speaker Rosenberger and the members of the Ohio House for unanimously passing HB 225, which will create a more robust program to properly plug historic idle and orphan wells throughout the state. Introduced by State Rep. Andy Thompson (R-Marietta), HB 225 provides the necessary reporting and funding framework to address this longstanding issue. Ohio’s oil and gas industry has long advocated for the plugging the state’s idle and orphan wells, to protect public health, safety and the environment, which had natural support among the oil and gas industry, agricultural community, environmental organizations and groups representing landowners. We encourage the Ohio Senate expeditiously to review and pass this essential legislation.
